About Wild Child.Ink
Hello! My name is Melissa & I’m the owner, artist, designer, copywriter, bill payer and chief coffee drinker here at Wild Child Ink. I’m in my 30s, queer af and use she/her pronouns.
At the start of the worldwide pandemic in 2020 (gosh, it’s still 2020. It’s been a long year!) I decided to bite the bullet and open my own Etsy shop as I’d been designing and creating in Photoshop a lot more to keep my mind off of the world’s situation. As well as continuing to work my full time job as a retail store manager. Yeah, I really wanted to keep my mind occupied.
I remember when I was about 14 teaching myself how to use Paint Shop Pro (I’m surely showing my age now) and then transferring over to Photoshop. I’ve always been an avid photographer and would spend hours of my life using both Photoshop and later on, Lightroom, to edit my photos and create mixed media art to share on the likes of DeviantArt and Flickr. From there, I taught myself web design and coding and fell into a job as a web designer at the age of 19. Unfortunately, that didn’t last very long as the company were well overpaying me and they didn’t last very long either.
Now I’m 34, fully adulting (apparently) and the buzz that I get from creating something on my computer or iPad has never left me. In fact, the fuzzy warm feeling when I see my art in your home (on Instagram – I’m not just going to appear at your front door to see a print hanging in your bathroom!) just never gets old!
After I made 10 sales on Etsy (and this was without sharing with anybody aside from my girlfriend) I decided that I was going to treat myself to an iPad Pro & Apple Pencil to help create even more art prints and greetings cards. BEST DECISION EVER. Not that I needed much encouragement to buy an iPad anyway because I’m the biggest Apple fangirl you’ll find but I could never justify the cost of the iPad Pro to myself.
So these days, once I’ve finish the day job, you’ll usually find me with a coffee in one had, my iPad in the other with a cat curled up at my feet, drawing or sketching or designing or.. .anything creative really.
